Croissants and Pain Au Chocolate

Croissants

Oh my goodness, so much is going on.  Last weekend I ran Disney’s Tower of Terror 10 Mile Race in Orlando.  It was awesome.  It was one of those runs where I just felt comfortable and warm from the very beginning… until mile 8.   Then I felt old and broken down.  I would have walked a little, but I knew if I stopped running I wouldn’t be able to start up again.  I wanted to run through that finish line with my head held high, my arms outstretched, and my eyes closed, as if I had just won the race.  I think I came in two thousand six hundred and ninety ninth.  Not bad. Chocolate Almond Tart with Fleur De Sel

This Friday I am flying down to Orlando, FL to run a Disney 10 mile race with my old buddy and good friend, Rae.  I have been training since June 1st, and I feel ready.  The last time I ran this race was 2 years ago.  It was a very eventful run.  It started off well and I felt good, but by mile 7 until the very end I was fighting off severe nausea.   I finished though, and I ran the entire way.  The following day we celebrated by riding rollercoasters and drinking wine.  When I returned home from that trip I found out that I was pregnant with Wesley.  Whoops. Moravske Kolace- A Daring Baker’s Challenge

Moravske Kolace

Moravske Kolace

I was issued a baking challenge through this awesome, secret club I am apart of.  The club is called the Daring Bakers.  The challenge this month is Moravske Kolace.  It is a yummy enriched dough filled with a sweetened quark filling and topped with plum jam and cinnamon crumble.  It is easy to make, and goes so nicely with a hot cup of coffee.  Thank you Lucie for introducing me to this traditional Czech sweet treat!  You can check out Lucie blog, Chez Lucie, here. A Sad Palmier Is Still A Tasty Palmier

I attempted the beloved French pastry classic, Palmiers, this week.   I was in it to win it from the beginning, but alas, they just didn’t form the way they should have.

Palmiers?

Palmiers?

Truth be told, I have been going back and forth on whether I should post my failures on this blog.  You see, my 20th high school reunion is coming up in a few weeks.  Stop calculating my age in your head…  I am 38.  Anyway, I share my blog posts on Facebook, so most of my old high school friends get to view my baking creations.  Do you see where I am going with this?  That means they’ll see my disastrous Palmiers, they won’t be able to stop thinking about it,  and I will be the laughing stock of the whole school!  Continue reading →
